Getting started

AURA asks for Microphone and Speech Recognition access the first time you use it. Both are required — without them there is nothing for AURA to hear or understand. Everything else is optional and asked for only when a question needs it, never at launch:

  • Location — for questions like where you are or the weather nearby.
  • Calendar — to tell you what’s coming up. AURA never changes or deletes events.
  • Reminders — to add to your list by voice and tell you what’s outstanding.
  • Notifications — for alerts you ask AURA to set.

Any of these can be revoked at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security, and AURA keeps working without them.

What it costs

AURA is free to download, and answering on your iPhone is free forever.

AURA Plus is $5 a month, with the first month free, and unlocks one thing: connecting your own Anthropic or Google key, which is also what makes live web results possible. It is an auto-renewing subscription billed through the App Store, and you can cancel in one tap in iOS Settings.

The $5 does not buy AI usage. It goes to us for the app. Your provider bills you separately, at their own rates, for whatever you use. We take no cut of that, set no prices, and have no visibility into your account. Set a spend limit on your provider account before you start — it is the only reliable protection against a surprise bill, and we cannot refund a provider’s charges. Full detail on Pricing.

Connecting a provider

Optional, and requires AURA Plus. In AURA: Settings → Connect a Provider, choose Anthropic or Google, and paste your key. Keys are held in the iOS Keychain on your device, are never shown again after you enter them, and are sent only to the provider they authenticate. Remove one at any time from the same screen.

AURA supports Anthropic’s Claude and Google’s Gemini. Support for other providers, including OpenAI, is not in this version.

Common problems

AURA doesn’t hear me

Check Microphone and Speech Recognition are allowed in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security. If you are on AirPods, confirm they are the active input. A silent switch or Focus mode will not block the microphone, but a phone call or another app holding the mic will.

Hands-free stopped listening

iOS can suspend a background app when the system needs the resources. If AURA is unsure whether it is still listening, it says so rather than pretending — reopen the app to restart the session. Hands-free also has to be started from the foreground, so turn it on before you put the phone away.

It says it can’t answer that

Questions that need current information — today’s news, live scores, prices — require a connected provider. Without one, AURA tells you it cannot find out rather than guessing from what it was trained on. That is deliberate.

The wake phrase isn’t triggering

Speech recognition can mishear short names, so give the phrase a moment of quiet before and after it. You can change the phrase or record your own in Settings → Hands-free.

Answers are slower than expected

On-device answers depend on your iPhone; answers from a connected provider depend on your network and that provider. Web results take longer than a direct answer because AURA waits for the sources.

Accessibility

AURA is a voice-first app, which makes it usable without looking at the screen at all. It supports VoiceOver, respects your Dynamic Type size, and speech rate is adjustable in Settings. If something is hard to use with an assistive technology, please tell us — email with the [Support] prefix and we will treat it as a bug.

Reporting AI output

Answers are generated by AI and can be wrong. If AURA produces something harmful, hateful or otherwise problematic, email Contact@auraclevoice.com with the [AI Report] prefix. Include what you asked, what it answered, and which source badge was shown. We assess every report, adjust what we can, and forward it to the relevant provider where appropriate.

AURA is not an emergency service. In an emergency, call your local emergency number. Do not use AURA in a way that distracts from driving or operating machinery.
